Voor de California Zephyr route van Chicago naar San Francisco staat al een behoorlijke 51 uur. Met 7 uur vertraging werden dat er bijna 60 door mechanische problemen en de vele goederentreinen waarop we moesten wachten (die hebben voorrang).
Maar je gaat in Amerika niet met de trein voor de effectiviteit of omdat het zo goedkoop is (vliegen of met de auto is sneller en goedkooer), maar voor de vaak prachtige uitzichten.
In 2, 5 dag leg je ruim 3900 km af en voert door allerlei soorten landschappen en 2 tijdszones. Onderweg maakt de trein op 35 stations (soms kun je even 5-10 minuten de benen strekken) in 7 staten.
Eigenlijk valt het niet te beschrijven hoe mooi die reis was, dus daarom een fotopost.

The California Zephyr route from Chicago to San Francisco is already scheduled for a hefty 51 hours. A delay of 7 hours, turned that in almost 60 hours on the train. This delay was caused by mechanical problems and the many freight trains that we had to wait for (that's the rule on the railroad).
But in America you don't take the train to get quickly or cheaply from one place to the other (airplanes or driving a car usually is faster and cheaper). You do take the train for the splendid views that you get along the way.
In 2, 5 day you cover over 3900 km through a huge variety of landscapes and 2 timezones. The train stops at 35 stations (you can stretch your legs at some stations for about 5-10 minutes) in 7 states.
It's impossible to find the words to describe how beautiful this train ride was, so here's a photo post.
