Kristalhelder water, witte stranden en wuivende palmbomen. Als ik niet temidden van verkeersgeluiden, talloze hotels en winkelcentra zou schrijven zou je echt denken aan een paradijsje.
Al zijn er hier op oahu ook prachtige plekjes. Zoals hanuama bay. Als beroemdste snorkelplek in hawaii ook wel aan de toeristische kant. Maar eenmaal onder water verdwijnt de menselijke herrie en drijf je tussen de tropische vissen en koraal. Er stond alleen wel een erg sterke stroming, dus heel ver de baai in ben ik niet geweest.
Het was ruim twee uur lang genieten. En helaas ook verbranden, zelfs met twee keer insmeren met waterbestendige zonnebrand. Maar het was het helemaal waard.
Iets dichter in de buurt van waikiki, waar ik verblijf, is diamond head. Een uitgestorven vulkanische krater die je op kunt klimmen. Met als beloning prachtige uitzichten over het eiland. Het is ongeveer 1, 5 uur heen en terug, als je een beetje doorstapt. En ik moest wel, want ik kwam om een uur of 4 s middags het park in en de hekken sluiten om 6 uur.
Meer paradijselijk gevoel vond ik aan de noordkust. Een busritje van 2 uur brengt me langs de prachtige kust en stijle uitgestorven vulkanen bij zeewier etende honu (zeeschildpadden) op laniakea beach.
Wat een prachtige beesten zijn dat. Met goede schutkleur tussen de rotsen. Helaas zijn er ook veel mensen die de regels 6 feet afstand en niet aanraken niet kunnen respecteren. Alles voor de foto. Ik heb voor mijn foto's de zoomoptie optimaal benut.
Ook aan de noordkust het plaatsje hale'iwa. Lekker eten, winkeltjes kijken en regenboogkleurig shaved ice van de beroemde matsumoto.
Voordat ik morgen naar japan vertrek, ga ik vandaag nog naar pearl harbor. Stil zijn bij het uss arizona memorial.

Crystal clear waters, white sand beaches and palmtrees. You would think that ittv was alittle paradise place, If it wasn't for the fact that I'm writing surrounded by traffic noise, in the middle of hotels and shopping centers.
Thankfully Oahu has its paradise like places too. Like hanuama bay. The most famous place to snorkel in hawaii, so yes, it is slightly toeristy. But as soon as you duck your head under water, the human noise disappears and you find yourself floating between coral reef and tropical fish. I could feel a very strong current so I stayed in the bay.
Two hours of pure joy. And getting a sunburn, despite applying sunscreen twice, but it was all worth it.
A little closer to waikiki where I'm staying, is diamond head. A distinct crater you can hike up to for stunning views. It's about 1, 5 hour round trip, if you keep up the pace. I had to, because I entered the park at aroud 4 in the afternoon and the gates close at 6.
Another bit of paradise I found on the north coast. The two hour busride follows the ocean lined with distinct vulcanos. I stepped off at Laniakea beach to see honu (sea turtles) eat their seaweed lunch.
What a beautiful animals they are and with such good colours to disappear into their rocky environment. It did make me sad to see that people could not respect two simple rules: stay at a 6 feet distance and don't touch. Just because they wanted their picture. I made full use of my zoomfunction of my camera instead.
Also at the north coast, the small town of hale'iwa. Good food, little shops and lining up for the famous matsumoto shaved ice, served in rainbow colours.
Before leaving for japan tomorrow, I visit pearl harbor today. Be still at the uss arizona memorial today.
