Van osaka heb ik niet veel gezien. Ik had maar 1 dag en toen was een typhoon (voor mij betekende dat veel regen en wind, maar gelukkig geen enge toestanden). Dus na veilig aangekomen te zijn, lekker in het hostel gehangen en geschreven voor deze blog. Ik heb minder uitgebreid de tijd dan in amerika, waar ik 2 maanden had. Hier heb ik 'maar' 3 weken. En er valt hier zoveel te zien en te doen! Dus maak ik kortere stops van 2 of 3 nachten. Dus lopen de berichtjes hier vaak een stad achter...
En dit berichtje komt dan ook niet uit takamatsu, maar uit fukuoka.
Maar takamatsu is ook een berichtje waard. Wat een verassend leuke stad.
Het meest levendige gedeelte vond ik's avonds rond het treinstation. De jongeren die nog vakantie hebben komen er samen, net als een verdwalde straatmuzikant en kunstenaar. Het is ook de plek waar ik ongepland toch nog een japans vuurwerkfestival kon meemaken. In augustus zijn er namelijk overal vuurwerkshows (vroeger werd hiermee het rivierenseizoen geopend). En veel mensen komen in traditionele kleding wat bijdraagt aan de gezellige sfeer. 8000 pijlen gingen er in minder dan een uur doorheen in alle kleuren van de regenboog. Het was een massale familie en vrienden picknick. En, ondanks dat ik genoten heb, miste ik op dat moment ook even familie en vrienden om er samen van te genieten. Gelukkig komt mijn family-time er snel aan in taiwan.
Nog een echt japans uitje, een bezoek aan een tuin. En hier in takamatsu hebben ze ritsurin-koen. Met 750000 vierkante meter aan zorgvuldig gearrangeerd groen en vijvers gevuld met enorme koi, de grootste formele tuin van japan. Het was een oase van rust. Zeker na de drukte van het awa-odori festival in het vlakbij gelegen tokushima. Dat was zo groots en zo kleurrijk dat jullie morgen een fotopost kunnen verwachten. 1 foto als voorproefje onderaan deze post.

i didn't see much of osaka. I had just 1 day and that was when a typhoon happened (from where I was, it meant a lot of rain and wind, but no scary things thankfully). So after a safe arrival at my hostel, I just sat and wrote for this blog. I find myself a little short on time here on writing. I dont have 2 months, like in the united states, 'just' 3 weeks. And there's so much to see and do here! So, I'm making shorter 2 or 3 night stops. Which is why the messages here, are usually a city behind....including this message, which comes from fukuoka, instead of the titled takamatsu. But takamatsu has been so nice to me and a bit of a surprise, so it deserves a short post.
I found the most the area around the station comming to live in the evening. The students who are still enjoying their summer holidays hamg around there, along with some street musicians and maybe a painter. It's also where I found myself attending a japanese summer firework. During the month of August there are firework festovals all over the country (it comes from the time that they would celebrate the river openings). Many people come in teaditional outfits which adds to the festival flavor. 8000 fireworks in all possible colours were shot into the air in less than an hour. It felt like a massive family and friends picnic gathering. And while I did enjoy the fireworks, I missed my family and friends at that moment to celebrate that moment with me. Thankfully, my family time is com, ing up fast in taiwan.
Another japanese place to go, are the gardens. And in takamatsu they have ritsurin-koen. With 750000 square meters of carefully arranged green spaces and ponds filled with huge koi, it's the biggest formal garden in japan. And a oasis of peace. Especially after visiting the huge and busy awa-odori festival in nearby tokushima the day before. That festival was so big and colourful that I'll give you a photo post tomorrow.
